ABSTRACT

Introduction:It is generally believed that Cyperus esculentus(tiger nut) has some fertility boosting effects. However, scientific validation of some of the fertility boosting potentials as well as the ameliorative effect of tiger nut on Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) is lacking. Objective:The aim of the project is to determine the effect of tiger nuts in reproductive function in rats induced with Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH).Methods:A total of sixty (60) male rats weighing between 160 –200g were used in this study. They were divided into six groups of ten rats per group. Benign prostate hyperplasia was induced in three groups of the rats (as stated in methodology) with 30mg/kg sub-cutaneous injections of hormones containing dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and estradiol valerate dissolved in olive oil in the ratio of 10:1 (three times in a week, one day interval). Administration of tiger nut meal commenced immediately and lasted for two months. At the end of administration, assay of reproductive hormones (FSH, LH and Testosterone) was done. Comprehensive semenanalysis was also done including (count, motility & morphology) Results:The study showed that the induction of BPH resulted in a very significant reduction of FSH while the administration of the tiger nut meal did not show any significant effect on FSH(P>0.05). The same trend was also observed on the effect of the tiger nut meal on LH level. For testosterone, it was observed that after the initial decrease as a result of the induction of infertility, 20% tiger nut meal administration significantly increased the testosterone level to 2.10±0.06 ng/ml from 0.30±0.01 ng/ml in the infertility-induced group. The effect of tiger nut meal on semen analyses namely, normal sperm cells and sperm motility showed a significant increase (P<0.05) following the induction of infertility. The effect of the tiger nut meal on sperm morphological toxicities were also examined. Sperm abnormalities like sperm cells with twisted tails were examined. Conclusion:The administration of tiger nut significantly ameliorated the abnormalities and thus, restored the morphology of the sperm cells such that it can enhance fertility

ABSTRACT

As an interface between external electronic devices and internal neural nuclei, microelectrodes play an important role in many fields, such as animal robots, deep brain stimulation and neural prostheses. Aiming at the problem of high price and complicated fabrication process of microelectrode, a microelectrode twisting machine based on open source electronic prototyping platform (Arduino) and three-dimensional printing technology was proposed, and its microelectrode fabrication performance and neural stimulation performance were verified. The results show that during the fabrication of microelectrodes, the number of positive twisting turns of the electrode wire should generally be set to about 1.8 times of its length, and the number of reverse twisting rings is independent of the length, generally about 5. Moreover, compared with the traditional instrument, the device is not only inexpensive and simple to manufacture, but also has good expandability. It has a positive significance for both the personalization and popularization of microelectrode fabrication and the reduction of experimental cost.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Recently TF-adaptive movement is developed in order to increase the durability of TF files. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of adaptive movement on durability and performance of twisted files. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Resin blocks simulating artificial J-shape canals were used for this study. In TFC group, TF-adaptive ML-1 (25/.08 size) files were used to prepare the canals under continuous rotation 500 rpm/4.0 Ncm. In TFA group, TF-adaptive ML-1 (25/.08 size) files were used to prepare the canals under adaptive movement. After preparing each artificial canal, TF files were observed under dental microscope for assessing existence of unwinding, distortion, and fracture. If unwinding of flute was observed, the number of artificial canals until unwinding of flute occurs was recorded. Required time until instruments reach working length and distance of unwinded portion of files from D0 were measured. All test results were conducted by Mann-Whitney U test at a 0.05 level of significance. RESULTS: No NiTi instrument's separation was observed. Number of resin blocks until file unwinding happens and working time was significantly high in TFA group compared to TF group. Distance of distortion from D0 didn't show significant difference between TFA, TF groups. CONCLUSION: The number of resin blocks prepared until unwinding happens and working time were significantly high in TFA group. The location of unwinding showed no significant difference between 2 groups. Adaptive movement increased the number of canals prepared until unwinding occurs and working time of twisted files.

ABSTRACT

Presentan complicaciones agudas y a largo plazo.

Fetal ovarian cysts are the most frequent abdominal tumor in newborns. It is the third cause of intra-abdominal cysts, after those of renal and gastrointestinal systems. Its presence can be suspected on ultrasound when a cystic-like tumor of regular structure located in the lower and lateral part of the abdomen, intestinal tract or urinary tract is observed in a female fetus with no anomalies. They present acute and long-term complications. The most frequent is adnexal torsion that presents diagnostic difficulties in the neonatal stage. Prenatal diagnosis is essential for the timely management. There are different therapeutic alternatives where minimally invasive and conservative surgery are important. The objective of the work is to demonstrate that the early diagnosis of fetal tumors intervenes in the successful outcome. We present the case of a 37-year-old primiparous patient, who had a soft-appearing tumor in the lower right part of the abdomen observed by ultrasound. This corresponded to a clearly identified fetal ovarian cyst and it was separated from the fetal bladder. The patient underwent cesarean section in which a female newborn was obtained. Two days later, the neonatal was minimal-access surgically treated successfully thanks to multidisciplinary management(AU)

ABSTRACT

What is the most important area to focus on to improve health in Korea? The overall number of doctors is the only indicator of the health care system that is currently emphasized by the government. Instead, we should focus on the number of public hospital beds, which is very low, and health expenditures, which are below average when normalized for gross domestic product. In most Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries, the public sector is the main source of health care financing, with approximately three-quarters of health care spending originating from the public sector. In Korea, social health insurance and the government currently finance approximately 55% of all health expenditures. In contrast, Korea has a top ranking in comparison to other countries with regard to the number of private hospital beds. The ratio of medical doctors, dentists, and Korean traditional doctors in the workforce in primary clinics is approximately 2.5:1.3:1. Therefore, the Korean government should decide whether traditional doctors should be included in the health care delivery system. Most medical doctors in primary clinics are specialists who require a corresponding support system. The training of new doctors is too fast, as the overall number of doctors in Korea is sufficient. The government should develop the best possible plan to help doctors be doctors and show their devotion to the community.

ABSTRACT

Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the number of intracanal bacteria extruded apically during root canal preparation using rotary ProTaper, K3XF, twisted, and hand K‑file system. Subjects and Methods: Seventy extracted single‑rooted human mandibular premolar teeth were used. Access cavities were prepared and the teeth were mounted in glass vials. Root canals were then contaminated with a pure culture of Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29212) and incubated at 37°C for 24 h. The contaminated roots were divided into four experimental groups of 15 teeth each and one control group of 10 teeth. Group 1: ProTaper; Group 2: K3XF; Group 3: Twisted file; Group 4: Hand K‑file; Group 5: Control group. Bacteria extruded from the apical foramen during instrumentation were collected into vials. The microbiological samples were incubated in culture media for 24 h. Colonies of bacteria were counted and the results were given as number of colony‑forming units (CFU)/ml. Statistical Analysis Used: The obtained data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis one‑way analysis of variance and Mann–Whitney U‑tests. Results: There was a significant difference between the rotary and hand instrumentation system related to the apically extruded intracanal bacteria. Conclusions: Both the rotary and hand instrumentation systems extruded intracanal bacteria through the apical foramen. K3XF file system showed least bacterial extrusion amongst all instrumentation groups.

ABSTRACT

Isolated fallopian tube torsion during pregnancy is a very rare condition. We report a case of twisted left fallopian tube during pregnancy who presented as a case of acute abdomen at 23 weeks and laparotomy was carried out. Subsequently she had a healthy baby by assisted vaginal breech delivery. Isolated fallopian tube torsion should be suspected in case of acute pelvic pain and prompt intervention is necessary as surgical detorsion may prevent irreversible vascular changes.

ABSTRACT

Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of multiple root canal usage on the surface topography and fracture of Twisted File (TF) and ProTaper (PT) rotary Ni-Ti file systems, using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Materials and Methods: Ten sets of PT and TF instruments were used to prepare the mesial canals of mandibular first molars. TF 25, 0.06 taper and PT F1 instruments were analyzed by SEM when new and thereafter every three root canal usages. This sequence was repeated for both the TF and PT groups until 12 uses. Two images of the instrument were recorded, one of the instrument tip and the other 5 mm from the tip, both at ×100 magnification. The sequential use was continued till the instrument fractured and the number of root canal usages for the file to fracture was noted. All fracture surfaces were examined under the SEM. Results: Fresh TF instruments showed no surface wear when compared to PT instruments (P < 0.05). Spiral distortion scores remained the same for both the groups till the 6 th usage (P > 0.05), while at the 9 th usage TF showed a steep increase in the spiral distortion score when compared to PT (P < 0.05). PT instruments fractured at a mean root canal usage of 17.4, while TF instruments showed a mean root canal usage of 11.8. Fractographically, all the TF instruments failed due to torsion, while all the PT instruments failed because of cyclic fatigue. Conclusion: PT instruments showed more resistance to fracture than TF instruments.

ABSTRACT

This study was done after identifying animals with a twisted carpal joint in goat herd. These included a kid goat walking on its articulus carpii and a newborn goat with a stiff leg. Necropsies of the diseased goats revealed swollen carpal joints that were twisted backwards. Arthritis was observed during microscopic examination of the carpal joints. Very low levels of eosinophil, leucocyte, and lymphocyte cell infiltration were found in the central nervous system and meninges. Serum copper levels were significantly decreased in most of the animals. All of these results led us to diagnose the animals with swayback disease.

ABSTRACT

Ovarian cysts are common incidental findings in term infants and, if unusually large, may result in dystocia, torsion, or rupture. We report the case in which serial sonographic examination revealed changing pattern of cystic ovarian mass from hypoechogenic to well defined multiseptated echogenic during pregnancy. Postnatal T2-weighted MR images revealed a multilocular with high signal density. After delivery a laparotomy was performed, and a twisted ovary measuring 6.7x5x4.5 cm was removed. Ovarian torsion was left-sided and had been almost autoamputated. The resected specimens were nontense, thin walled cysts, filled with hemorrhage like fluid. Histological examination demonstrated the presence of lymphangioma with widespread hemorrhage and necrosis. The neonate did well after the procedure.
